Sundowning Behaviour Management
Welcome to the Sundowning Behaviour Management page.
This collaborative page is where you will apply what you have learned about supporting residents who experience late-day confusion, often known as sundowning, in dementia care settings. Here you will practice identifying respectful digital supports and reflect on how to use them in real-life care situations.
How to Participate
Step 1: Watch the scenario video View the “A Sudden Shift” scenario in Canvas to understand how a resident may show increased confusion or agitation near the end of the day.
Step 2: Identify digital supports Think about digital tools or resources that could help staff manage sundowning behaviours safely and respectfully (for example: behaviour tracking applications, digital reminders, secure messaging, or monitoring devices).
Step 3: Add your contribution
- Create a new section under your name or learner ID below.
- Briefly list two to three digital tools you would recommend.
- Write a short reflection (three to five sentences) explaining why these tools are helpful and how they support person-centred care.
Why This Matters
Understanding and managing sundowning behaviours is an important skill in dementia care. Using respectful digital supports helps you protect residents’ dignity, safety, and well-being while communicating clearly with families and colleagues.
After You Post
- Take a screenshot of your post or copy the link to your contribution.
- Upload the screenshot or the link to your Portfolio Document Companion in Canvas to complete this activity.
